I pretty much have all my MAGFest video posted up. Took me a while but everything MAGFest related is posted.

The video above is the Nerf Wars Video featuring Linkara and MarzGurl. It’s the one I was spent the most time working on. I it’s one of may favorite videos on my channel right now.

This one was Pre-Nerf Wars. I asked about some of the weapons used for the epic event.

I made my first vlog for 2012. Yes it is late but only because I was at MAGFest. Hope everyone enjoys 2012!

I have been reading up on the whole Ocean Marketing thing. I saw a lot lousy customer service but this is over the top.

PennyArcade.com posted an email conversation that involves Paul Christoforo, an angry customer named Dave and PA’s Dave. The whole thing was really intense.

After that conversation was made public the gaming community made fun of the whole thing and sent Paul angry email. There was even a video parodying Ocean Marketing.

At the end of it all Paul tried extorting the client that fired him by taking their email.

I wrote articles about this stuff here and here. It was too tempting not to.

Today I came across an interesting interview with G4′s Morgan Webb on CNN.com. It wasn’t interesting because Morgan says something informative. She pretty much said the opposite of informative. Is the interview really that bad? Well let me go over this with everyone…

Let’s start with the title of the article: “What is a ‘Gamer’ in 2011?” (It should be “Who is a Gamer”, not “What”). The title sounds like what should a deep analysis about who is and who isn’t a gamer, which would require input from multiple people to help come up with the traits of a gamer.  But this article only asked Morgan Webb… Moving on.

The article starts out by recalling that Video Game Awards host Zachary Levi said that everyone is pretty much gamers. Ms. Webb, who CNN calls a “hardcore gamer” legitimacy’s sake, gave her take on who is a gamer.

“The word encompasses so many different groups, so it doesn’t really mean as much as it used to. I call myself a gamer, but someone’s mom who plays ‘Farmville’ all the time, maybe she calls herself a gamer too, and she should, because she is. I think we need words to start differentiating the subgroups.”

So she pretty much says that anyone who plays any type of game. Since she answered the question the title asks the article should be over. But sadly there is still more.

And the part about putting gamers in subgroups? Don’t we do that already?! There are novice and expert gamers, casual and hardcore gamer, arcade, console, portable, and PC gamers. I see no reason why she said this must be done since it’s being done already.

The article then turns to a Q & A with Webb giving cookie-cutter answers to cookie cutter questions. CNN then asks Morgan whether motion control will take premise over traditional controllers. Her response:

I think there is room for both. Core gamers – the hardcore gamers who play games like “Gears of War,” “Call of Duty,” “Assassin’s Creed” and Skyrim” – that gamer is definitely more interested in using a controller for a lot of their experiences. The problem is that [with] the [PlayStation] Move, these motion experiences aren’t nuanced enough to actually give the player as much control as they would have with a [regular] controller. For example, if you are swinging a sword on a Wii game, you slash to the right and it does a right slash or slash to the left and it does a left slash, but it doesn’t really track or there is no skill involved. Now you are just standing up there making slashing motions for three hours.

… Wow. Just wow.

Let’s break this down piece.

Core gamers – the hardcore gamers who play games like “Gears of War,” “Call of Duty,” “Assassin’s Creed” and Skyrim…

Your know, the group of people who play one title from a certain group of M-Rated game who opinions somehow weighs more than everyone’s.

Except for the COD players who bought it for the Wii. Just saying.

The problem is that [with] the [PlayStation] Move, these motion experiences aren’t nuanced enough to actually give the player as much control as they would have with a [regular] controller. For example, if you are swinging a sword on a Wii game

Wait a minute. Did Morgan Webb used the Wii as an example to describe the PlayStation Move?

For example, if you are swinging a sword on a Wii game, you slash to the right and it does a right slash or slash to the left and it does a left slash, but it doesn’t really track or there is no skill involved. Now you are just standing up there making slashing motions for three hours.

Girl, did you even play “The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword”? I’d figure you’d play since Wikipedia listed “Zelda” as one of your favorite games. Because if so, you would have known that, thanks to the Wii Motion Plus, your success in Skyward Sword DEPENDS on how accurate you swing your sword. And bout this “skill” you are talking. I’ll bet $100 that you can’t beat me in ANY game let alone a Wii game.

Then the article ends with Webb giving some recommendations, again critically and gamer acclaimed Skyward Sword is not mentioned despite Zelda being Morgan’s favorite game.

Meh. This interview has “train wreck” written all over it. If Olivia Munn said the crap said here she would have had a day worse that that Ocean Marketing guy. People need to call stuff like this out.

On my last blog Triforce talked about timeline for The Legend of Zelda and disagreed with the one posted on Kotaku. Well, he now made a video where he shows his own theorized Zelda time. Interesting…

With a recent release of the an art book it looks like there is a grasp of The Legend of Zelda timeline.

Late last night EMP Triforce put out a video where he describes his personal theory about how the Zelda timeline works.

This morning, Kotaku posted one guy’s theory, which says the main timeline splits into three three realities: the one that involves the Twilight Princess story, on involving Wind Waker, and the third one that involves the the NES titles.

Shortly after that Kotau article is posted, EMP Triforce respond with another video, disagreeing with the theorized the way split of the timeline (below).

TriforceGameMaster is back from the Spike’s Video Game Awards and has agreed to a Q & A about the event.

What was your first thought when you received you invitation to this year’s VGA’s?

Yes! I get to witness The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword win Spike TV VGA’s game of the year live.

Did you like the selection of celebrities for this year?

A. I’m indifferent to the celebrities. I like the fact that they are well established names in American society that get to endorse gaming but at the same time this is our culture, our community and our industry. I just wish that they would get more gamers involved. I’m looking to 2012 as that year.

You know have to mention this: Charlie Sheen presenting the Best Shooter Award, winner getting teabagged. Your thoughts?

A. I don’t know what’s the whole big deal with Charlie Sheen. That’s whole thing was some issue about his character based on public opinion. I think he did a good job coming on stage reading his line and presenting the game. Besides that I’m ignorant to Charlie Sheen’s life and whatever is it he did that made the whole world is mad at him about. I don’t see how is any of that relevant when there are more pressing matters happening in the world.

As for the Tea-bagging, well its a reflection of what we do as gamers when we play video games. Gamers need to get off their high horse for a bit and laugh at themselves. It’s not like they made it up to trash us. They just emulated us. Big deal. It was funny to everyone, laugh it off and keep it moving.

The day after the VGA’s Mark Hamill (Voice of the Joker) tweeted how he got bad seats and was not even told that the winner of the award he was nominated for was announced. Any opinions on that?

Yeah I saw that Tweet. I will not even try to get involved in that. That is a blunder in the production of the show, based on a lot of factors that we are all ignorant too. It would not be fair to comment on that.

What was the best part of the VGA’s?

The best part of the VGA’s for me is kind of a bias answer. I was honored to witness Shigeru Miyamoto accept the Hall of Fame award for The Legend of Zelda video game franchise. 15 games in 25 years and still going strong. In fact, it was a contender for Video Game of the Year. That’s how much lasting power Zelda has.

There have been some key changes to the VGA’s. Which parts did you feel the best improved and which needs more work?

The most improved part of the VGA’s was the innovation in the technology that they used for the show such as the AR. Having the Skyrim Dragon fly in on the set was godlike. As for what needs work…they need more notable gamers to be apart of the program. Felicia Day and the Black Baron was a good start. They need to work toward some of the pros gamers mixed in with the social gamers, mixed with Hollywood celebrities.

Celebrity Drama

First the gripe about the celebrity appearances. This the bashing of the celebrity appearances has been constant no matter who shows up. It’s like when a famous person wants does something related to video games, the online warriors question their “gaming rep” to their last breath! Even this guy admits to doing once! This has to stop.  I saw a comment that said “Why Jerry Rice and Hulk Hogan?” Uh… maybe those were there because they have appeared in a hefty amount of games?

Felcia Day had to be there. Yes here segments were lacking but after meeting her at New York Comic Con I can tell she was a blast to be around backstage.  Spike did good in getting her.

The only appearance I don’t agree with is Charlie Sheen’s. His current image makes him unfit to present at any award show right now.

But overall people will bitch and moan if there a D-listers and when A-listers  do show up people will just call them D-listers and go through procedure.

Trailer Failure

The trailers should be one or two per year. That’s it. That’s all I’m gonna say on that matter.

Some of the “core” will say Felicia Day’s backstage segments looked lame. But I’ll tell you thing. There were people backstage who had a frigging blast Felecia and company.

And the award goes to…

The nominations did improve I must admit. Yes there will be people who won’t agree with what (or who) got nominated or what (or who) won. It is what it is. But they did improve in my opinion.

I would have like you see more awards announced on the show, especially the Best Human Performances . Yes it would make the show longer but it should have been 3 hours anyways.

One thing should have been a clear cutoff date for what is eligible. I noticed that WWE All-Stare was nominated for Best Fighting Game instead of WWE ’12. Some might say that WWE ’12 came too late but get this. The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword came out November 20 while WWE ’12 came out November 22. That’s only a two day difference. This can be interpreted by a movie by Spike, which airs TNA, Impact, or whatever the hell it is, to prevent WWE from taking home a VGA. But I’m sure that’s not the case, I’m sure the cutoff was coincidentally November 20 or 21.
