Not the Anime Fest We Need in New York

Earlier this year I have decided not to go to New York Comic Con. However, when I found out my friends’ panel will be at NYCC’s Anime Fest. I went there on Sunday. While Anime Fest was less crowded than what NYCC is known to be lacking in (I can account for the other days), even if you consider it “anime only” it was still lacking.

For starters, there were no booths for the big guns of anime such as Funimation and Viz, which would have made a statement that ReedPop was serious about anime convention in NY. Also, moving the Dragon Ball Super Broly to Pier 94 instead of Madison Square Garden would have shown the New York Otakus that they meant business. Have that panel thirty blocks away from Anime Fest is not a good play.

And when it comes to merchant section, it just seemed to be some spots who couldn’t get spots at NYCC. I read that those merchants didn’t sell much. Merchant goers are willing to spend an extra $25 just to see more sellers.

If Reed Pop wanted to bring back Anime Fest, they should make it its own event, not a phoned-in extension of a convention that is already maxed-out.

    • There have been a lot of things I did not like about the more recent NYCC’s such as the panel waiting system. With anime conventions such as Libery City Anime and Anime NYC, ReedPop needs to form a dedicated Anime Fest, not cheap extension of NYCC.
